The purpose of this website is to discuss the exciting project that the Union County Recreational Corporation (“UCRC”) is in the process of undertaking for the community. Over the last year or so, the board of UCRC which includes representatives from both the soccer league and the Khoury league, a representative from several of the county banks and two members at large, have been working diligently on organizing UCRC and establishing our tax exempt status with both the State of Illinois and the IRS. On August 19, 2009, the IRS approved our application for exempt status under section 501 (c) (3) of the tax code.
Our main focus at this point is developing a 13-acre piece of ground (donated by The Cunningham Foundation) into a recreational complex for all of Union County to utilize. Phase I of the project is the development of 5 playing fields. These fields can be utilized for multiply sports such as soccer, flag football, t-ball, church softball league, etc. Further we anticipate hosting “health fair” events/activities at the complex in order to promote healthy lifestyles for all ages. Also included in Phase I will be a walking trail around the fields, playground area and a parking area accommodating 134 +/- parking spaces. The estimated cost for Phase I is $200,000.00.
The complex is located at the east end of Brady Mill Road in Anna. This location is ideal for a number of reasons including its proximity to the city park and the feasibility for citizens to walk or ride bicycles to the complex. We believe the project, when completed, will be an asset for all of Union County—an asset which can be used to attract other communities/teams from outside of Union County for special events or sporting tournaments. This allows our families to stay closer to home while opening up our community to out of town visitors who will naturally spend money while in Union County. In short, we truly believe that this project is not only an investment that will pay off in the form of use, enjoyment and promotion of healthy lifestyles for our community but also in the form of increasing revenues for local businesses and thus local governing bodies.
If you would like to help financially with this project, you can do so by making a donation to UCRC which will in turn be matched by William R. Cunningham. Please make checks payable to “Union County Recreational Corporation.” Receipts will be provided by UCRC for your tax records. All donations are greatly appreciated.
